Put chopped apples into a 9" baking pan, or a cast iron skillet. Add lemon juice and 3 tablespoon sugar and toss together.
In a medium bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
Add butter to oat mixture and combine with a pastry blender or your fingers to make a crumbly dough.
Sprinkle oat mixture over apples to evenly coat.
Bake at 375 degrees, until topping is crisp and golden, and apples are bubbling, about 30 minutes
Drizzle with salted caramel sauce. Serve warm or cold
To make this apple crisp over a campfire or outdoor grill, cover skillet with foil and cook over indirect heat. More time than indicated for oven baking may be required. Any oven-safe baking dish can be used to make this recipe.
