Why You'll Love This Fudge
- It takes less than 5 minutes to make. In fact, we could call it 3 minute fudge!
- There's no need for a candy thermometer.
- Using the microwave means no standing over a hot stove.
- This homemade maple fudge is rich, creamy, and decadent.
- Maple walnut fudge is a delicious addition to a holiday treat tray, or just a snack to satisfy a sweet craving.
- Homemade fudge is a perfect edible gift!
Ingredients
- Sweetened Condensed Milk The key to this easy maple fudge recipe. Sweetened condensed milk is simply milk with a lot of added sugar which has been reduced to a creamy, almost syrupy texture. I use this brand, but any brand will do.
- White Chocolate You can use white chocolate chunks like these, or chips, baking wafers, or even just break up some pure white chocolate bars.
- Butter Only use real butter. If you are using salted butter, you can omit the added salt.
- Salt
- Walnuts Chop the walnuts if you don't buy them pre-chopped. If you prefer a maple pecan fudge, substitute chopped pecans.
- Maple Extract Maple extract works in this quick fudge recipe (rather than pure maple syrup) because the extract is concentrated so you require much less vs maple syrup. Using enough maple syrup to flavour the fudge would make the fudge too soft.
How to Make It
- Line a greased 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, using a large enough piece so that there is overhang on two sides. This will make it easy to remove the fudge from the pan.
- Combine the chocolate, butter, and sweetened condensed milk in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring after each minute.
- Stir in the walnuts and maple extract.
- Spread the mixture in the prepared pan and refrigerate until set, about two hours.
Tips and Variations
- Walnuts are especially delicious with maple, but pecans, hazelnuts, and macadamia nuts are also good choices.
- Omit the nuts altogether in the case of tree nut allergies.
- You can try all kinds of variations of sweetened condensed milk fudge. I love this Chocolate Toffee Fudge. Try substituting the white chocolate for milk or dark chocolate and the maple extract for mint.
- This microwave fudge will not set as hard as the old fashioned fudge version. It will be a little softer and for best results, you should keep it in the fridge until serving or snacking.
- Lightly oil your pan before lining it with parchment paper. This will keep the parchment in place.
Fudge FAQs
Evaporated milk is unsweetened, and condensed milk is sweetened. Because of its sugar content, condensed milk is also thicker and more syrupy.
Yes, you should keep it in the fridge, in a covered container.
Your fudge will keep in the fridge, in an air tight container for up to 2 weeks.
Yes, you can freeze fudge. It freezes well, and you can even eat it straight out of the freezer. Frozen fudge is delicious! Once the fudge has set in the fridge, cut it into pieces and "flash freeze" it. Put the pieces on a parchment lined baking sheet and place it in the freezer until the pieces are hard. Pack them in air tight containers or freezer bags and freeze for up to 6 months.
