Strawberries and popsicles on a plate.

Homemade Strawberry Popsicles are the ultimate tasty treat for a hot summer day. This easy popsicle recipe contains just two ingredients and no added sugar. It's a perfect summer treat!

It couldn't be any easier to make your own popsicles with fresh fruit. The ice pops that you buy in the grocery store usually don't contain real fruit, but instead have tons of sugar, as well as artificial flavorings and colors.

Why Make Your Own Popsicles?

  • Homemade strawberry popsicles are much healthier than store bought. Fresh strawberries bring their own natural sweetness, so there's no need to add sugar.
  • These creamy strawberry popsicles are vegan, eggless, dairy free, and of course, naturally gluten free.
  • Homemade frozen treats are free from artificial dyes and other ingredients.
  • Fresh strawberry popsicles are super easy to make. The hardest part is waiting for them to freeze!
  • Refreshing popsicles are a perfect treat for kids on those hot days. They are a refreshing, delicious, and healthy sweet treat!

Here's What You Need

Just two simple ingredients!

  • Strawberries It's always wonderful when you can find fresh strawberries in season locally. Because these strawberry popsicles don't contain sugar, make sure the strawberries are at their peak of ripeness and sweetness.
  • Almond Milk The slight flavor of almond makes almond milk a good choice for this popsicle recipe because almond and strawberry are complimentary flavors. However, feel free to use any milk, plant based, or dairy. If you use coconut milk, just be aware that your homemade popsicles will have a coconut flavor.

How To Make It

  • Use a food processor or blender to puree the strawberries with the almond milk
  • Pour into molds and freeze.

Tips For Perfect Homemade Popsicles

  • This strawberry popsicle recipe doesn't have any refined sugar, but if you prefer a sweeter popsicle, you can add some, or use maple syrup or honey. Taste the puree before pouring into molds, add sweetener and blend until it's sweet enough for you.
  • These strawberry pops will freeze very hard because of the lack of sugar. Take them out of the freezer and let them soften at room temperature for a few minutes before enjoying.
  • I love using this silicone popsicle mold for homemade popsicles. They're very easy to unmold and come in all kinds of sizes and cute shapes. But if you already have your own favorite popsicle molds, use them. And if you don't have popsicle molds, you can use small paper dixie cups. After filling the cups, cover them with plastic wrap. Use a knife to poke small holes in the plastic to insert the popsicle sticks.
  • If your popsicles get stuck in the molds, just run the bottoms under hot water for a few seconds until they loosen.

Common Questions

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes! In fact, if it isn't strawberry season, frozen strawberries may be a better option. Just thaw the frozen berries out before blending.

Why are my homemade popsicles icy?

Too much water will cause ice crystals to form. These healthy strawberry popsicles are made with almond milk instead of water so they aren't too icy.

Why are my popsicles so hard?

Adding white sugar lowers the freezing point, resulting in a softer popsicle. Since there's no added in this recipe it is a healthier option. However, your popsicles will be very hard. For best results, remove them from the freezer and unmold them. Allow the popsicles to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before enjoying.

How long do popsicles last in the freezer?

Popsicles will keep up to six months in the freezer if properly stored. To store, remove the frozen popsicles from their molds. Immediately put them in a zip lock bag or freezer safe airtight container and return them to the freezer.

Variations

  • For an extra creamy popsicle, replace the almond milk with Greek yogurt, either plain or vanilla (if not vegan)
  • Add lemon juice for strawberry lemonade pops.
  • For an icy popsicle, use water instead of milk.
  • Omit the almond milk and use strawberries only for pure fruit popsicles.
  • You can use any fruit instead of strawberries to make delicious popsicles. Try any of the following: raspberries, blueberries, peaches, bananas, kiwi, watermelon, or mango.

When strawberries are at their peak there is no need for added sugar! Now that the kids are gone, I miss making popsicles. I should get back into it just for my husband and I. We need treats too!
